For someone who has spent her career creating timeless rings for others, this personal milestone was even more special, made all the more meaningful by the heartfelt surprise Charlie had planned just for her. THE PROPOSAL
HOW DID YOU BOTH MEET?
CASSANDRA: One day I was driving into work and stopped to grab a coffee at a new little coffee shop that had opened called Brown Charlie. I was greeted by a gorgeous smiling barista who was also the owner – it was Charlie! We were friends for 3.5 years and then got closer at the end of 2022 when he declared his love for me.
HOW DID THE PROPOSAL UNFOLD, WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FOR YOU?
CASSANDRA: In August, a beautiful photographer, Rhiannon Brooke, reached out to me on Instagram saying she loved the connection between Charlie and I and thought a couple shoot would be beautiful. I loved the idea, so we booked a date. Little did I know, Charlie secretly got in touch with Rhiannon two days before the shoot, asking if she could capture a special moment – his proposal.
The most memorable moment was at the end of the shoot when Rhiannon asked us to dance on a little cliff at sunset. She said she was going to put on a song for us, and as soon as I heard "Better" by Khalid, our favourite song, I became emotional.
I looked at Charlie’s pockets for a ring box but didn’t see one, so I thought the song choice was just a coincidence. As we were dancing, right when the chorus hit, Charlie said, "You know what would be 'better'? If you were my wife." Then he got down on one knee and asked, "Will you marry me?"
DID YOU HAVE ANY IDEA THE PROPOSAL WAS COMING, OR WAS IT A TOTAL SURPRISE?
CASSANDRA: As a jewellery designer who made her own ring with Charlie in the process, I knew that one day he would propose since he had the ring. I didn’t know when or where, but I knew Charlie is so romantic, and whatever he planned would be perfect. And it truly was.
DESIGNING THE RING
AS A JEWELLERY DESIGNER, DID YOU ENVISION YOUR ENGAGEMENT RING BEFORE THE PROPOSAL?
CASSANDRA: ABSOLUTELY!! I made it!! Mid-year, Charlie started the process with me to source my marquise diamond. I was thrilled knowing I was soon going to marry the man of my dreams. When searching for my marquise diamond, I applied the same care as I do for clients – I looked for top color (D-F) and clarity (SI1 and above), with the biggest spread for the carat weight. I found the perfect marquise – it’s internally flawless, D color, and a rare Type 2a diamond. Less than 2% of all diamonds found globally are Type 2a, making it incredibly prized and pure. I feel very lucky.
HOW INVOLVED WERE YOU IN THE DESIGN PROCESS FOR YOUR RING? TELL US ALL ABOUT IT.
CASSANDRA: I designed the ring with two accent diamonds in an epaulette shape, a cut I loved and surprisingly had never sourced for anyone before. This is the first ring I’ve created with these cut diamonds. I showed Charlie the sketch, and he loved it. When the ring was complete, Charlie came to collect it, and we looked at it together for the first time. I cried.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FEATURE OF THE RING, AND WHY?
SENTIMENTAL VALUE
HOW DOES THIS RING REFLECT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CHARLIE?
CASSANDRA: The carat weight of the side diamonds holds special significance because they perfectly match in number, color, and clarity, which is tricky to find. It’s symbolic of our love – a beautiful, rare match.
YOU'VE DESIGNED SO MANY RINGS FOR OTHERS. HOW DOES IT FEEL TO WEAR ONE YOU DESIGNED FOR YOURSELF?
CASSANDRA: It feels incredible to wear my own ring. So many people commented on Instagram after our engagement announcement, saying, "Congratulations, it’s your turn!" It brought tears to my eyes because, after creating engagement rings for so many beautiful love stories, now I have my own.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER COUPLES DESIGNING A RING TOGETHER?

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PROPOSE IN THE WAY YOU DID?
In my mind, I was very flexible how I was going to do it. I always knew I was going to have a professional photographer, and I wanted to have our favourite song at the moment of the proposal.
WAS THERE A MOMENT YOU KNEW IT WAS THE RIGHT TIME?
Rhiannon, the photographer, shot the photo shoot as a "normal" couple shoot... Rhiannon and I came up with a plan 2 days before and settled on when the time was right. Rhi was going to request some individual shots of Cassandra to give me time to hide the ring, and I had in my jacket zipped up, of course! Once I hid the ring, she then put our song on (Better by Khalid) and invited me in for a little dance. Rhi and I knew the exact moment I wanted to propose, which she gave me a great recommendation to stay on my knee until Cass said yes 🥹
