Champagne Diamonds

At Cassandra Mamone, we have always been drawn to stones with quiet character, stones that feel personal rather than performative. Champagne diamonds sit at the very heart of that philosophy. Here is everything you need to know about them, and why we think they deserve far more attention than they've traditionally received.

Part of Our Story From the Very Beginning

Champagne diamonds have been part of the Cassandra Mamone story from the very beginning. When Cassandra launched her debut collection, Sorrento, in 2013, she chose champagne diamonds set in the warm tones of rose gold - a pairing that felt instinctive, and has defined the brand’s aesthetic ever since.

Champagne diamonds are naturally coloured, ranging in tone from soft, golden beige through to deep cognac brown. At Cassandra Mamone, we select stones from the C3 to C4 range - a warmth that sits in beautiful harmony with yellow and rose gold, and lends every piece its signature glow.

What Is A Champagne Diamond?

Champagne diamonds are naturally occurring coloured diamonds that range in tone from light honey (C1) to rich, deep cognac (C7). Their warm hues come from nitrogen present during the diamond’s formation deep within the earth - a process that unfolds over billions of years.

Unlike white diamonds, which are graded on the absence of colour, champagne diamonds are prized for their colour. The depth and warmth of a champagne diamond is considered a feature, not a flaw. It is what makes each stone wholly unique.

The most sought-after champagne diamonds are found in Western Australia’s Argyle Mine - one of the world’s most significant sources of naturally coloured diamonds, now closed. This makes Argyle-origin champagne diamonds increasingly rare and increasingly cherished.

How Do Champagne Diamonds Compare To White Diamonds?

When comparing champagne diamonds to white diamonds, there are a few key differences to consider:

Colour: The most obvious difference is the colour. While white diamonds are prized for their lack of colour, champagne diamonds embrace their warm, brown hues. The colour scale for champagne diamonds ranges from light champagne, which has a subtle hint of brown, to dark cognac, which has a rich, deep brown colour.

Rarity: Champagne diamonds are generally more abundant than white diamonds. While white diamonds are the most common and widely available, champagne diamonds are considered a specialty diamond and are less frequently found.

Price: Due to their rarity and unique colour, champagne diamonds can be more affordable than white diamonds of similar carat weight and quality. This makes them an attractive option for those looking for a distinctive and budget-friendly diamond.

Individuality: Champagne diamonds offer a unique and individualistic appeal. Their warm, earthy tones exude a sense of elegance and sophistication, making them a popular choice for those seeking a non-traditional diamond.

Why We Love Them

We are often asked why we are so drawn to champagne diamonds at Cassandra Mamone. The honest answer is that they feel real. They have warmth, depth, and individuality in a way that a colourless stone simply cannot replicate.

Every champagne diamond we work with is unique. No two stones share the same tone, the same depth, the same quality of light. When a client chooses a champagne diamond for a bespoke piece, they are not choosing a category; they are choosing that specific stone, with all its singular character.

Creating Something Bespoke

At Cassandra Mamone, every champagne diamond piece begins with the stone. We invite our clients to come into the atelier, hold the diamonds, and see them in natural light. It is only then that a design conversation truly begins.

The right setting for a champagne diamond honours its warmth rather than competing with it. We often work with rose and yellow gold, which complement the stone’s natural tones beautifully.
