CM Bride: A Romantic Sydney Proposal

It's proposal season, and our latest bride-to-be Cayleigh James of 'Of Style And Substance' blog had a swoon-worthy one.

With the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House as the backdrop, there's nothing short of romantic with this proposal.

We had the pleasure of designing a beautiful cushion engagement ring with brilliant round cut diamond in a platinum band for Cayleigh.

Read on below as she shares her engagement journey and what her ring process looked like.

How did you and your fiancé meet?

David and I met when I was still in high school, through a mutual friend. It wasn’t until a couple of years later when he got my number from my friend that we really hit it off. We have now been dating for over 4 years.

Share with us your engagement story.

It was an incredible day...it is hard to put it all into words! David put so much time and effort into planning it and thought about so many special details that included all of my favourite things.

He surprised me with a trip to Sydney and proposed on the second day. We started the day with relaxing massages, and then when we were doing some ‘shopping’, he surprised me with a gorgeous Zimmermann dress (one of my favourite brands) which he had picked out and paid for the week prior - it was waiting for me in the dressing room. He then took me to beautiful Lavender Bay where we strolled through a secret garden and admired the breathtaking view. I remember thinking that he was going to drop down on one knee and propose there. Little did I know, he had something better planned - a beautiful private boat was waiting for us on the bay just a few metres away. Forty-five minutes into the boat ride we stopped at a quieter part of the harbour, which had a stunning view of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. David got down on one knee and after saying some beautiful, heartfelt words; he pulled out the beautiful Cassandra Mamone ring. I said ‘YES!’ in a heartbeat and we celebrated with some champagne. The surprises didn’t stop there...David had organised a beautiful bunch of flowers and dinner at the Aria to follow. It was the most magical day and I’m so excited for our next chapter together.

What drew you to Cassandra Mamone pieces?

I discovered Cassandra Mamone on Instagram and was drawn to how delicate her pieces were. They had a sense of elegance and classiness and I could tell that she had a good eye for detail. Her beautiful personality is what won us over with the decision!

Tell us the details of your ring. What was the process like with you?

I am absolutely in love with my ring and I get so many compliments on it, Cassandra did such an amazing job with the design! David and I designed the ring together with Cassandra. While this isn’t traditional, I really wanted to be involved in the process because I had quite a specific design in mind and we wanted to share in the exciting and special process together. We were set on a brilliant (round) cut diamond because we love how classic it is and that it is known for being the diamond cut which gives the most sparkle. I really wanted a cushion-shaped diamond halo to give the design a modern edge. Cassandra helped us choose the best proportions for the ring and suggested a fairly high setting to give the ring the ‘wow factor’ - which I love. We chose platinum for the metal with diamonds along the band and a little-hidden diamond on each side of the ring. I wanted the design to be delicate and to show off the diamonds with not too much metal showing. It was difficult to explain, but Cassandra knew exactly what I meant and created the perfect design for me. Cassandra is bubbly, relaxed, relatable and warm, which made the process, even more, fun and exciting.

What are your wedding plans?

We have set our date for January 2019, so it gives us plenty of time to plan the wedding, although I’m sure it will go very fast! We haven’t really planned much at this stage but are planning to get into it from now. We are looking at wineries in the Adelaide Hills for the ceremony but will have the reception at David’s family property, which is currently being completely re-landscaped, which is very exciting! I love that it will be sentimental and unique and that we can build and design all elements for the reception from scratch. The vision for the wedding is classic with lots of white, greenery and florals and ‘luxe’ gold accents.

Until next time,
