ENGAGEMENT FEATURE: KURTIS & BELINDA
What initially was a newborn photoshoot turned into a surprise proposal for Kurtis and Belinda. Kurtis got down on one knee and proposed to Belinda with the beautiful Sweet Embrace Ring. Belinda had been a longtime fan of Cassandra's designs and had hinted the Sweet Embrace ring to Kurtis. In today's blog, Belinda and Kurtis share their love and details of their sweet proposal.
HOW DID YOU BOTH MEET?
Belinda: We first met in high school, catching the same bus and a few shared friends of friends, but generally running in different crowds so we didn't really get to know each other until we started working together at the same company.
Again though, different departments, so it took a decade, a mutual friend and a lot of drinks consumed on night out in town to bring us together before we were close enough to consider dating.
WHAT DREW YOU TO CASSANDRA MAMONE FOR THE DESIGN OF YOUR ENGAGEMENT PIECE?
Belinda: I have been a fan, following Instagram, since before we got together, and not so subtly hinting (every-time you put up a new post!) that when the time came to drop the knee Kurt should contact Cassandra. Every design she debuts has an instant 'wow' about it.
Kurtis: When I built up the courage, I asked her best friend to help zero in on her favourite design. Luckily Belinda had recently sent her Sweet Embrace ring; no second guessing or a dozen uncomfortable interactions with sales persons at the jewellers was needed, I absolutely loved it and knew it was the one.

Kurtis: I had the ring in hiding for a couple of months trying to find the perfect time. As our first child, baby girl Elliot, was born I had thought the newborn photos would be a perfect opportunity and could capture the moment as-well. But just like everything else in 2021, it got postponed and postponed again. Finally we got a new date and funnily enough the photos were reschedule for the afternoon of Belinda's 30th birthday, it worked out perfectly.
We walked down by the lake for our newborn photos, photographer in tow. My nerves were at an all time high and the ring box situated somewhere inconspicuous and uncomfortable (fellas IYKYK), so I had to do it quick. I said to Belinda "I got you en extra present for your birthday."
Belinda: I had no idea he was about to propose; too busy concentrating on where I was stepping and to not drop the baby! I turned to him thinking he was going to crack an untimely joke or do something silly like the larrikin he is, but he was already down on one knee and asked "will you marry?" I immediately started to nod my head, too shocked to speak but finally blubbered out a yes!
Kurtis: Meanwhile the photographer was so excited she was yelling out "oh my god!". As I looked across it seemed like she was too caught up in the moment to even take photos. So I was awkwardly stuck on my knee for quite awhile until she could catch up.
TELL US ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS OF YOUR RING, WHAT WAS THE PROCESS LIKE FOR YOU, WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE ASPECTS OF THE PIECE?
Kurtis: Knowing which design I wanted, I emailed through the information to Cassandra and her team. They were quick to respond and were really excited to help bring this ring to life. Being colourblind, and having no knowledge of this sort of thing, I thought I'd struggle with all the stone options and suggestions but it was such a smooth experience; trusting the advice from Veronica, the design worked out beautifully. I love how unique and modern, yet elegant, the ring is. Suits Belinda to perfection!
Belinda: I love everything about it. The rose gold and peach/pink morganite is a stunning combination, plus the initials on one side of the band are sweet & romantic, and the rows of diamonds on the other side really bring the bling factor. It's a ring that has everything!
DO YOU HAVE ANY WEDDING PLANS YET?
No wedding plans set in concrete as of yet. But we do know it's going to be one hell of a party!
