Oval diamond
Ahhhh, where to begin with Oval diamonds. Well, like a pear, ovals are also classified as a modified brilliant-cut. Prividing a similar fire and lustre as a round diamond, an oval shape is the perfect alternative if you want something that little bit unique. We love the amount of sparkle and brilliance that comes with an oval diamond, which is largely thanks to its 58 facets. This fancy-cut shape was originally introduced much later than other popular cuts, first being created in the late 1950's by Lazare Kaplan - a Russian born diamond cutter. Here's a fun fact about Oval diamonds. The average 1-carat oval diamond has a 10% larger surface area than an average 1-carat round diamond. Meaning, it appears larger than other diamond shapes of the same weight. In 1981, Princess Diana stepped out with a stunning 12-carat Oval blue Ceylon Sapphire, which is now regarded as one of the most replicated engagement rings of our time. Today, and more recently in the last few years, oval diamonds are one of the most popular shapes throughout the world. Have a look at some of our favourite Cassandra Mamone jewellery pieces incorporating an oval shape.
