Is remodelling worth it?

Remodelling has been a signature Cassandra Mamone service for many years, and something she loves to do for clients. It’s the perfect crossroad of design and sentimentality. 

For a lot of clients, there is a sentimental value to the pieces they bring in; sometimes it’s the stone itself, or the gold from a band, and sometimes it’s the idea of a piece more than the setting it’s in. 

The question that comes up again and again in Cassandra’s consultations is whether the current pieces are being worn at all. Pieces can often spend years sitting in a drawer, not because they aren’t loved, but because the style no longer fits how the person dresses, or the setting feels dated or simply not them.

One of our clients told us she now wears her remodelled ring constantly, "it finally feels like them." 

Yellow and rose gold can be melted down and reworked, which also makes remodelling a cost-effective process with the current gold pricing. And gemstones can be reset.
We also regularly help clients combine more than one piece into a single new piece. A mother’s engagement ring and a father’s wedding band, for example, reworked into one ring. 

One client described having "both my mum's and dad's wedding bands in one piece that fits me," with the intention of passing it on again one day.

Not every heirloom piece needs to change; we’ve also had clients bring in a selection of pieces, and Cassandra has remodelled some but not all. The design process reinvigorated a love for the piece and the nature of the original design. Some antique pieces are simply too beautiful to touch. 

A remodel starts with a consultation with Cassandra; she’ll talk through the piece’s history and your vision for it before any design work begins. From there, it’s the same hands-on process as a new bespoke piece; your design will be sketched, and Cassandra will work with you the whole way.
